At St. Mark's the Music
Group's role has great importance in the Parish's Liturgy. Members of the
various groups share in the proper performance of the music sung, and encourage
the active participation of the faithful in the singing.
The choir members and any instrumentalists under the direction of the Music
Director encourages the active participation of the parish community in singing
at the Liturgy.
God has blessed our church with different styles of music. Folk,
contemporary and traditional can be heard at any service. Our blend of
music that ministers to the people is a joy to bring before the Lord.
As Christian
musicians, we are not here to serve the art, but to serve the God of the art.
Therefore the first commitment we ask of each participant is to be a worshipper.
Ours is not an auditioned program. Membership in a choir requires the ability to
match pitch consistently, a commitment to regular attendance, and a desire to
improve one's own musical ability. We encourage you to come and experience our
ministry of music. It will feed your soul.
Choirs
Our first and largest choir is our congregation which gathers for worship
each week. Our congregation loves to sing God's praises and enjoys a rich
heritage of Hymns, Psalms, and Spiritual Songs as an offering to God. Our
rehearsing choirs include:
FOLK
GROUP
Leads in

MIXED VOICES
CHOIR

What is a
Musician ?
The musician is first a disciple,
then a minister.
The musician belongs first of all
to the assembly;
he or she is a worshipper above all.
Like any member of the assembly,
the pastoral musician
needs to be a believer,
needs to experience conversion,
needs to hear the Gospel,
and so proclaim the praise of God.
Thus the pastoral musician
is not merely an employee or volunteer.
He or she is a minister.
Someone who shares faith,
serves the community, and expresses the
Love of God and neighbour through music.
