CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE – ST. MARK’S CHURCH
 

The Catholic Women’s League of Canada is an organization that contributes to the life and vitality of the church, family and community, both at home and abroad. An invitation is extended to all Catholic women to purchase a membership in the Catholic Women’s League of Canada. By doing so, one would be:

1.         supporting the efforts of League members across Canada who are diligently working to promote the teachings of the Catholic church.

2.         part of the largest national organization of Catholic women in Canada with a tradition of service to others as expressed in its motto “For God and Canada.”

At every meeting, we pray through the intercession of Our Lady of Good Counsel, the patroness of the League, who is our model to be imitated.

The objectives of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada:

• to achieve individual and collective spiritual development

•  to foster the sense of community

• to promote the teachings of the Catholic church

• to exemplify the Christian ideal in home and family life

• to protect the sanctity of human life

• to enhance the role of women in church and society

• to recognize the human dignity of all people everywhere

• to uphold and defend Christian education and values in the modern world

• to contribute to the understanding and growth of religious freedom, social justice, peace and harmony

 To achieve the above objectives at St. Mark’s CWL general meeting, we arrange for speakers to share with our members interesting topics and our members engage in charitable works of a spiritual or monetary nature. In the past, we have had many mini-spiritual retreats/missions led by priests or sisters, speakers on health matters, stress management, financial advice, gardening and crafts etc. Every December, our league makes approximately 50 Christmas baskets that are given to the elderly in nursing homes or private homes, the ill or recently widowed. This involves donations and volunteers from the parish as well as the CWL. Last year, our CWL donated craft supplies and toys for the Attawapiskat Indian reserve. We give Cathletic Key Cards, holy cards or supply a cake to help with the celebration with the first Holy Communion class. We have fund raisers such as bake sale, fashion show, pampered chef, bags and bangles etc. to raise money in order to donate to the Catholic Missions in Canada, the new convent for Carmelite Sisters, sponsoring a child overseas as well as pay for speakers and any incidental expenses of our CWL.

The Catholic Women’s League at St. Mark’s Church meets the second Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. from September until May. All Catholic women are invited to attend.
