  CHURCH MINISTRIES & GROUPS

Children's Liturgy

The purpose of the Children's Liturgy is first to develop the children's sense of God's presence and, second, to demonstrate how important the children are to the Parish as a whole. The Children's Liturgy gives boys and girls, primarily ages 4 to 10 the opportunity to participate in the Liturgy of the Word at their own age level.

The Children's Liturgy consists of  prayer and a reading and explanation of the Gospel of the day. The focus is on the importance of love and respect for each other, at home and at school. The children then return to the Church and join their family for the remainder of Sunday Mass.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.)

The process of Christian initiation is intended to draw those who wish into the Church and into the paschal life.  Under the direction of the Pastor, the RCIA Catechumenal Director directs all aspects of this process.

Altar Servers

Young people who have made their First Holy Communion may be recruited for this Ministry. They act as representatives of the congregation and assist the Priest during Mass. In addition to serving at the weekend Masses at St. Mark, they are called upon to assist at special feast days, funerals and weddings.  They are encouraged to serve at the weekday Masses as well.
Altar Servers assist the members of the liturgical assembly by presenting or arranging vessels and other items used in the celebrations.  Their reverent and efficient service enable other ministers to attend to their own roles while the liturgical actions unfold with calm, order and appropriate decorum.  As members of the assembly who are often visible to all, the Altar Servers also model good liturgical participation.  Adults may also be Altar Servers if they wish.  Age is irrelevant when it comes to serving at mass or liturgical celebrations.

If you are interested in this ministry, please contact the Co-Ordinator.

Ministers of the Eucharist to the Sick
The purpose of this ministry is to bring Holy Communion to parishioners who are unable to attend regular liturgy.  The ministry provides the homebound and institutionalized with a sense of community and belonging.

If you want to be a Eucharistic Minister to the Sick, please see
Deacon John
or contact the Parish Office.

Ministers of Hospitality (Ushers)

The most important task assigned to the men and women of this group is to extend hospitality... to greet and welcome old and new parishioners to the Masses at St. Mark's Church. Other duties include seating parishioners and taking up collections during Mass. Ministers of Hospitality (Ushers) also assist parishioners wherever possible by providing information about activities at St. Mark's.
New members are always welcome.

Ministers of the Word (Lectors)

Lectors, or Ministers of the Word, are men and women of the Parish who feel called to proclaim God's word, to allow God's spirit to use their voices and expressions to spread the Good News. Ministers of the Word are encouraged to follow the "5P" formula: pray for guidance and strength; prepare well ahead of time; practice silently and aloud; persevere (it takes time to become a skillful lector); and proclaim with faith and meaning.

New voices are always welcome.

The Lector serves the liturgical assembly by proclaiming Sacred Scripture during the Liturgy of the Word.  The competent exercise of this role enables the Church to hear the Word of God more clearly and receive it more readily.

If you are interested in this ministry, please contact the Co-Ordinator :
Maureen Irwin
